Poem for mothers

I made this poem for my mother...

TO ME SHE SING
In this hour of pure sunlight
My heart is breaking
An angel came to being
She healed me, to me she sing.

From the cold wind of twilight
An empty soul is chasing
An angel came to being
She filled me, tome she sing.

Once in a midnight gloomy,
I pondered weak and weary
An angel came to being
She kissed me, to me she sing.

Out of night, to silver dawn
In white my angel's coming
Oh! She is here! She is here!
My mother, to me she sing.

BSIT: one day

 BSIT: one day

Sa una namong panag-uban,

Ang mga dagway maulawon,
Pa smile-smile lang sa kauban,
Mura bayag mga hilumon!

Ug sa pila lang ka semana,
Tura mga bagag dagway nanggawas na!
Gipanguluhan kini ni Edward Trumata,
ga na! perte jung sabaa!

Tunga2x sa semestre,
Nabugna ang TAG ug I.Y.O.Tee
Daghan pud ang nag happy-happy,
Story telling sa ORG TREE.

Kadtong nahuman na ang semestre,
Damu nagbalhinay ug nag stop sa study,
Kay lisud kuno ma probee,
Pahawaon jud daw ni jollibee!

Busa karon kami nanggamay,

“Oso-Oso” man gud ang tirada,
Sama sa “DOET(duet)”,”Open-line”,”Cobal”, ug “Virgen Cola”!

Karon inig usa sa amua,
Naglisud sa major na mga subjeka,
Pero tua sige rah gyapon katawa…
Ambot lang hangtud kanus-a,
Unta magdugay pa…!

My advice to those who will take their Fieldtrip and Seminar program in the near future.

My advice for those who will take their Field trip and Seminar program in the near future are the following:
·         Prepare
Prior to the event, you must be well prepared—this includes your clothes and your things. During the event, it is better to prepare your things in the evening so the time you wake up you will take a lesser time gearing yourself. And also, wake up early.

·         Listen
During the lectures and speeches on the company visits, you must listen carefully. Your full attention must be on the speakers, this might be hard but doing this will make your trip memorable since this is the essence of the entire trip.
·         Take notes
One of the important things you must do on the trip is actually the taking-notes part. It is very advisable to take your own notes in order remember what you have learned--just like a simple diary.

What can I recommend for the improvement of the Fieldtrip and Seminar Program?

Actually, in my own opinion, the event conducted was a successful one. However, I have gathered some of points to consider that might help for the improvement of the event:

· Bus Assignments

As what I’d observed during the event, one of the things that consumed greater time was about the finding and searching of the buses assigned for us. Some of the students were on the bus they should be not and because of that there might students visited a company twice since every bus went to different destinations. In order to lessen the time consumed on finding our assigned buses and also to avoid some misconceptions, I would suggest that prior to the event, the students must be fully informed on the assignment of buses.

· Time limitations for the Companies

In regards with the company visits, I would suggest that as possible there would be a time limitation for each company that will be visited because as what I’ve noticed some companies consumed a long period of time just on advertising and presenting their company, lecturing about their History, and not about what we wanted to hear and learned.

Field Trip DAY 5 --MMDA's Technology!

MMDA
The last company we visited was MMDA or Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.MMDA is an agency of the Republic of the Philippines created embracing the cities of Manila, Quezon City, Caloocan, Pasay, Mandaluyong, Makati, Pasig, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Parañaque, Valenzuela, Malabon, Taguig, Navotas and San Juan and the municipality of Pateros. Metropolitan Manila or the National Capital Region is constituted into a special development and administrative region subject to direct supervision of the President of the Philippines. The MMDA office is located at Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) corner Orense Street, Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati Philippines. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolitan_Manila_Development_Authority)

What I learned?
I learned from the tour in the MMDA their newest surveillance system provided to meet the growing needs of security and active and efficient services every time there will be road accidents or alike. They uses the technology like the other country’s. The speaker also introduced us  their latest CCTV camera that according to them will be installed around other streets in metro manila.
What I liked?
What I like about the visit was again their accommodation. I also liked that even they were all busy in their respective areas there, they still spent some time to show us the technology they use in providing the people fast services.
What I didn’t like?
I didn’t like about the visit? Hmmm.. I can’t think of one.

Field Trip DAY 4 --Exist G2iX

EXIST (G2iX)

On day 4, we went to Ortegas for a Company Visit at EXIST. A software innovation factory that helps companies meet the demands of the current economy and achieve their goals.
What I learned?
In Exist I just did not learned about the technical parts of the company, I was also motivated by them to continue my studies. They were all inspiring, young girls living the life and working their passion into reality. As far as I can remember, this Company was once visited our school and offered their programs to us. This company was really I great help for starters; they did not just offer work for young developers, at the same time they also provides a training ground for all.
The session was started by one of their staff…a woman. She opened the discussion by answering questions. The first five persons that will ask were given a token – I am one of them. The common questions ask was about the company—why they exist and what are they in the economy. She answered all the questions unfavorably and then after she introduced us to her colleague, the second speaker. She talked about her humbly beginnings at the Company and her experiences being a young developer. She first told us her story laying foremost importance on the character and personality building alongside professionalism. Her point of never ending struggle, consistent hard work and striving to make a difference was very well exhibited. It was such a powerful and convincing call inviting us not to be defeated in any trouble we were to experience soon as we continue in our field. The interactive session was loved by us and a huge gesture of applause was given to the respectable speaker whose wisdom and convincing power was above board.
What I liked?
I liked the fact that the speakers were all girls. Girl power indeed! I also like the way they treated us, we could see on their faces how grateful they were to see a lot of girls now engaging to Technology since as we all aware of, most of the technical past in this world belong to boys.
What I didn’t like?
I can’t think of a single thing that I can comment negatively to them.

Field Trip DAY 3 --PLDTand TTI!

PLDT (Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company)

On the third day of the tour, we went to PLDT , the leading telecommunications provider in the Philippines. Through its three principal business groups - fixed line, wireless, and information and communication technology - PLDT offers the largest and most diversified range of telecommunications services across the Philippines’ most extensive fiber optic backbone and fixed line, cellular and satellite networks.

What I learned?
Our tour in PLDT was like on SSS in the sense that we stayed their for a long time without having us first introduce ti the IT related or IT division of the company. At first we are just discussing the History of  Company, of how they endured the happenings in the country bringing back the history of the Philippines including the wars that at a time made the downfall of the company.
It was about 2 hours of waiting, listening to the busy tour guide before we reach the destination we must already be when the tour started. We went on the fifth floor I guess to have our lecture, it was very exhausting and super tiring but since it was a once in a lifetime tour, I forced myself to be energized.
A prominent person I guess conducted the presentation. The discussion was also interactive and wakening since he made quizzes right after every topic. He first explained to us how their company work, how they provide fast and secure services (voice or non-voice). He also explained the type of network they are using and the clustering of their centers around the Philippines. However, Some of the contents of his presentation were already discussed in school like the OSI model, Networking, IP addressing etc so we didn’t tackled much about them anymore.
What I liked?
I liked the visit in PLDT because of one reason; they never let us use stairs instead their elevators! But aside from that of course I also like the tour accompanied by the one of their employers. She’s so nice that she let use sit on the board of Directors room and experience how to be like a prominent person.
What I didn’t like?
What  I didn’t like in PLDT was their accommodation. I expect a lot from them after all the requirements they asked us but they did not met my expectations so I was a bit disappointed.

TTI (Telecom  training Institute)

The most unforgettable company we visited was the Telecom  training Institute in Valenzuela, all I can remember from this Company was the warm greetings of the environment itself =)!
What I learned?
Among the Company sites we visited, TTi was really a very Technical Company. I could not see any markings of aircon from their place, however, honestly aside from EXIST, this Company was one of my bet also with regards with the aspect of accommodation and lecture.  Even though they can’t offer us a cool and good room to stay during the lecture, they never let us down. They discuss everything hands-on!  They actually let us see how to connect or remove a jacket of a wire using their super expensive stapler-like tool. They showed us how a packet or signals moved through the wires of a telephone or something. Regrettably, I missed some important points in their discussion since their place was too small to accommodate us all even we already divided ourselves into small groups.
What I liked?

What I like about the visit was the company itself. I think they provide good training to their students as what I did observed during the discussions. And also, I like the way they lectured us.  I could say that they were knowledgeable and they were very accommodating as well.
What I didn’t like?
As what I have said, one thing that only lacks from the visit was air-conditioner, aside from that, no more.

Field Trip DAY 2 --Seminar at UP Diliman! Wohhooo!

Seminar at UP Diliman!!!

About 8 in the morning, we went to UP Diliman to have our National Seminar, some sort of Symposium. It was considered as an extension to the recent national Seminar of IT students, the UPITTC.
What I learned?
The event was formally started  by Prof. Lemuel Braña where in he introduced the topics to be discussed by the remaining speakers.
The first speaker was Ms. Rose Ann Sale of  the Web Science Group. She gave us about a 20 minute presentation revolved around about Writing and Winning a Thesis. She lectured us on the significant stages in writing a Thesis: first was the “Thinking About it Stage” where in she advised us to select a subject familiar enough that you can write about it with feeling and authority, yet unusual enough to distinguish our work  from the mass of other applicants. Second was the “Proposal Stage” where in according to her the key at this stage is to write a proposal that will attract the attention of the kinds of participants that we want to have. In this stage also we must present the objective of our research. The next stage was the “Building Your Eyebrow Stage”, in this stage she talked about having our thesis partner (if have one) and choosing our thesis advisor. As what she wants to tell us, choosing our Thesis Advisor is the most important decision of our life—perhaps more important than choosing a spouse since our choice according to her affects everything we will do unto our career. The next stage was the “Nerve Wracking Stage”, this stage concerns about the testing of our Thesis Project. This may include allowing others to read and give their opinions. And the last stage was the “I did It Stage”. In this stage she discussed about the development of the thesis, that we must set goals in order to have an effective and positive results.
The next speaker was Mr. John Boaz Lee, the one who made girls wake up. In his speech, he talked about Visualization; he told us the importance of visualization for us to see the availability of data. There were many speakers after Mr. Lee who presents us the other topics like Animations and Mobile Apps game development and Educational Technology.
What I liked?
What I liked regarding the seminar was the intractability of it. It was very informative and just having the thought of sitting and listening to UP people was exciting! The interactive talk which revolved not only into the technical parts but also around the concept of believing in our own potentials and abilities which somehow get letdown by either the self under-estimation or by some elements of the society. It was a true ice breaking and capacity building session which forced the us to think about character grooming and our worth a million value in society.
What I didn’t like?
What I didn’t like at the visit in UP was some of the speakers.  The speaker who ended the event and the foreigner speaker were kept on reminding us our shortcomings. Yes, it was our fault to be late on the allotted time however I think and believe that it is not necessary to keep reminding our mistake especially because they already knew were very sorry about it. And one more thing, I just notice on the program schedule of the event, they did not included a time allowance in every switching of the speakers—not  even a second!  The food also was not so great, but because of the informations I munch up during the presentations, somehow it was enough to get to the bottom of my ravenous stomach.

Third Company visit: Ayala Techno Hub (IBM and SeaChange)

The seminar finished maybe after 3 hours of listening and engaging to a tete-a-tete with neighbors.  With the accompaniment of the organizers of the event at UP, we were be able to enter the Ayala Techno Hub which allows to visit IBM and SeaChange.

IBM
International Business Machines (IBM) is an American multinational computer, technology and IT consulting corporation headquartered in Armonk, New York, United States. IBM is the world's fourth largest technology company and the second most valuable global brand(after Coca-Cola). IBM is one of the few information technology companies with a continuous history dating back to the 19th century. IBM manufactures and sells computer hardware and software (with a focus on the latter), and offers infrastructure services, hosting services, and consulting services in areas ranging from mainframe computers to nanotechnology.IBM has been well known through most of its recent history as the world's largest computer company and systems integrator. With almost 400,000 employees worldwide, IBM is second largest (by market capitalization) and the second most profitable information technology and services employer in the world according to the Forbes 2000 list with sales of greater than 100 billion US dollars. IBM holds more patents than any other U.S. based Technology Company and has eight research laboratories worldwide. The company has scientists, engineers, consultants, and sales professionals in over 200 countries.IBM employees have earned five Nobel Prizes, four Turing Awards, nine National Medals of Technology, and five National Medals of Science.[10] As a chip maker, IBM has been among the Worldwide Top 20 Semiconductor Sales Leaders in past years.( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM).
What I learned?
When I first heard of having IBM as one of the Companies to be visited on the trip, I got extremely keyed up.  I was very intrigued in this Company because of what I read on articles especially their competition against Microsoft.
Ms. Iris Chiu, as far as I can remember, I guess she was in Marketing Department. A Presentation was given to let us know about the nature, products, servises and objectives of IBM. The 20 minute presentation revolved around the need of the people to have them us a partner in business that promises to serve humanity and nation by producing quality products and services. She introduced us the company’s vision, missions, institutional goals and core practices which were then followed by a series of accomplishments and milestones covered since its birth to date. Message of importance of Company was conveyed by the speaker through describing all on running and planned projects that fall under their umbrella.  From the presentation, I was able to realized that IBM is not a Company I thought was a long time deadly after the rise of the Microsoft, but I realized they were not. They were alive kicking Microsoft out of the market. Hmmm… I’m excited if they can actually regain the reputation they had before Steve Jobs and Bill Gates were born.
As the presentation ended, Ms. Iris welcomed her colleague that would escort us to a tour on their building.
On the tour, I understand mush about servers since our tour guide explained it well to us. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take notes this time so I forgot the term he used to say when clearing up.
What I liked?
What I like IBM the most was the way they presented and promote their company. They did not mention any destruction on the other companies. And also, they provide a place where in we can actually have access unto their servers and use it for our projects for free. We just have to inform them first and wait for their approval. One more thing, IBM buy projects or proposals. This might help freelancers and newbie developers.

What I didn’t like?
What I didn’t like was the briefness of the tour inside their building. I really want to see more.
SeaChange
SeaChange International, Inc.  is the global leader in multi-screen video and one of the largest software companies worldwide.  The Company provides innovative, Emmy award-winning solutions and services for back office, advertising, content, in-home devices and broadcast to hundreds of media companies globally, including blue chips such as Comcast, Virgin Media, AT&T, Hutchison Whampoa, Vodacom and DISH Network.  Headquartered in Acton, Massachusetts, SeaChange has product development, support and sales offices around the world (http://www.schange.com/en-US/Company/Facts).
What I learned?
When we arrived at sea change building, we entered a room where in a lecturer was already prepared for His presentation.  They welcomed us by the speaker in an introduction to the company and its team members showcased by a video. The company focuses on the television aspect of technology. They offer a wide programs to make our TV viewing beyond the usual.  They create graphics and designs in order ti meet the customers wants. When we were touring on their work place, I found a programmer using dev c++ as his platform in making his program, I just visualized that maybe in the near furure I might also belike him—making programs so easy and effortless. The lecture and the tour  proved to be a very interesting, thought provoking and informative  that made us all stunned!
What I liked?
What I liked at seaChange was there accommodating atmosphere too. I love their staffs, they just making fun with each other, feels like they were not weird geniuses.

What I didn’t like?
What I didn’t like at the visit was I guess the short time we spent at their company. Too short to use for explorations, =)

Field Trip DAY 1 --SSS Office and SPI GLobal!

First Company visited: SSS Main Office

We arrived at the NAIA around 7:30 AM.  It was really a big and nice airport as what I am always heard and seen on Televisions. We were the first batch to arrive at Manila so right after a minute of waiting for our belongings, we were then asked to be geared up for our first company visit in the SSS Main Bldg at East Ave., Diliman, Quezon City.  I was a bit surprise since as we have been practicing everyafter  travel , I thought of having  a rest even for an hour only(hehe), unfortunately , the trip was not that like the trips way back in high schools and grade schools. happily, we have about 1 hour before making to the site, so instead of making myself fascinated on the views against the window of the bus , I put myself to rest to lessen the fatigue and physical exhaustion brought by the plane.
We were able to reach the SSS Main Building around 10. Suppose to be, we must be there at about 8 – 9 but because of some unexpected circumstances happened at the airport, we did not made it on time. From that moment, I thought the SSS staffs were gnashing their  teeth already. Fortunately, they are too kind to make be like what I thought, and guess what; they organized a program exclusive for us. Hmmm… they were too good to be true. ^_^
What I learned?
The program starts formally right after we were all settled up.  We were welcomed by their pretty MC Ms. Mercy Lucena. The first speaker talked was Ms. Marissa Bugante, a UP Graduate and she was in the corporate department of the Company. She did the opening remarks and introduced us their company. Next was Ms. Eugenia dela Cruz, she talked about the history of the Company, how they progress and endured the years passed and also their programs offered to the people. One thing that did went under the surface of my mine from the lectures of the first 3 speakers was that when you are once a member, you will always be a member of the company—nice slogan and so true.

The last speaker from the company was Mr. Leo Abayon from the Production Center. At last, they will to introduce us to their IT division. He first discussed the beginnings of their usage of the technology. It was in years 1970-1983 when they started using computers, huge computers – NCR machines as they call them .  in year 1983, they created 2 branch online and since the company was growing rapidly, in 1986 they were able to centralized their operations and made another online branches. It was in 1992-1996 when they switch to full computerization and in 1997-2003 they recentralized their databases and had a business recovery center. In these years also they started clustering their servers in order to support their growing company. In the present they are using SUN M9000 server is the Oracle’s highest-performance and largest-multiprocessor enterprise server delivering massive scalability, up to 64 processors and 256 cores to handle the largest workloads. It's designed for demanding virtualization, consolidation, and multi-hosting deployments that require mission-critical RAS features. (http://www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/servers/sparc-enterprise/031587.htm). Currently, they have 3,722 Web Inquiry Systems, about 839,247 Web registered members including Web registered Employees, 106 receiving and processing centers. Their regional hubs has the capacity of 1.7 DB record,a private network connected to public networks and uses TELCO Grade Firewall. the company was indeed well informed to the new technologies passes by.
After the talk of the last speaker, our very own Professor Dr. Randy  Gamboa, they  accompany us on a tour to their building. From the Museum to the library wherein we were able to know the company’s humble beginnings. Then ,we went to the MAC or the Members Assistance Center wherein they teach us how they corporate all their services and also they introduced to us the ID capture and the use of Biometrics. The last tour was in their production centre. We went to the first section of the center, the AUTOMATIC FINGERPRINT IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM where they showed us how they match fingerprints and how they were able to identify unauthorized users. The second section was UMID then the third was MAILING section.
What I liked ?
What I liked about the company was their staffs. They welcomed us warmly and as a matter of fact, they prepared a yummy snacks (burger and bottled tea) to keep us energized. And of course, the best thing about them was the fact that they did not  prohibited us to explore their company especially in their IT division.
This reason why among the companies we’ve visited, this was one of my favorites.
What I didn’t like?
What I didn’t like about the visit was the long talks of the speakers especially those speakers who took a long time to advertise their company—from History to their Services. Their topics were so far from what we want to hear.

Second Company visited: SPI Servi Soft
After about 4 hours touring in the SSS Building, we took our lunch (lunch?) at the Jade Valley, Timog Ave.,QC and went directly to our next Company Visit—at the SPI Global located at Parañaque City. We arrived  at the site at around 3 pm. SPI as what they introduced us is one of the world's largest and most diversified Knowledge Process Outsourcing and Customer Interaction service providers in the industry in terms of clients, geographic presence, and capabilities with more than 14,000 dedicated employees globally. They provides domain expertise in the Customer Interaction, Healthcare, Legal, and Publishing markets and provides services across a wide-range of industries including banking and financial services, government, information technology, media, not-for-profit organizations, retail, and travel.

What I learned?
During the lecture, I was not able to understand greatly what they want to mean cause they were not sure of what they were telling  us. However, as far as I can remember, they teach SDLC (Systems Development Life Cycle) and according to them they use “waterfall”. I’m not familiar with this term but what I understand it was all about creating systems. I guess it’s under SAD subject and since not enrolled to that subject so in the entire lecture I just made some positive gestures (haha). In the next speaker, fortunately, even though I’m not familiar to the SAD, I was able to understand some since he delivered the talk informatively. He taught us the stages of making a system. From the structure stage, then to the programming stage (wew!),  to the testing stage, then to the End-user Testing, and then to the implementation stage. Hmmm… at least I got some background to system analysis and design! I might used this knowledge soon.
What I liked ?
I guess, what I liked about the company was the fact that they are always looking for more of the right people to help them provide their  worldwide clients with high quality, cost-effective Knowledge Services and CRM outsourcing solutions. That means they are at all times open to people who might want to apply to their company.
What I didn’t like?
What I didn’t like about the visit was their accommodation. Unlike SSS, their unpreparedness was too obvious to see.  For me it’s okay even if we waited a long time for the presentation to start, what I don’t like was the truth that they did not delivered their presentations the way we can understand easily.

Field Trip To Manila --Overview

Owing to the realization that apart from educational grooming, character nurturing and capacity building of an individual is the significant most factor that educational institutes should take into serious consideration, the event was arranged to make the students aware of the trends and latest technologies, opportunities and capacity grooming on grounds of character and intellect as well as to motivate the students to keep going on in life through hope and never ending struggle.

This documentation focuses on the events in relation with the first Major Field Trip of the Institute of Computing of the University of Southeastern Philippines. The field trip to Metro Manila was conducted on October 4 until 8 year 2010.  This documentation includes overviews of the Companies I visited and the knowledge I learned from them.

The Student registrations and arrangements for the event were already underway since about few months associated with an organized team work and streamlined planning which involved selection of students that will act as officers from each section (CS and IT), involvement of faculty members, contact and formal invitation to the guest speaker and arrangements for the trip.  The event went as advantageous and educational as it was expected. The Maynilad Tours played an important role in making the event successful on grounds of arrangements and coordination.
